About Ice Hockey Queensland
Ice Hockey Queensland is the governing body of youth and amateur ice hockey in Queensland and the premier developer of hockey players in the state and is a member of Ice Hockey Australia.
Queensland’s state teams compete in four different age and skill levels including Peewees (U13), Bantams (U15), Midgets (U18) and Mens (over 17).

Ice Hockey Queensland is managed through three levels of operations by elected or appointed individuals in accordance with the IHQ Constitution and is made up of an executive board, member delegates and portfolio directors responsible for delivering ice hockey programs for the state of Queensland.

History of Hockey in Queensland
Queensland ice hockey was established in 1960 with the opening of the Mowbray Park Ice Rink in Kangaroo Point near Mowbray Park which is now East Brisbane. Mowbray Park Ice Rink lasted until 1967.
Hockey in Queensland continued with the opening of the Four Seasons Ice Palace at Toombul in 1971 and operated until 1985.
Iceworld Acacia Ridge opened in 1979 followed by Iceworld Boondall 10 years later in 1989.
Ice Hockey Queensland currently sanctions two national league teams (Brisbane Goannas in the Australian Women’s Ice Hockey League and Brisbane Blitz in the Australian Junior Ice Hockey League) and four clubs (Southern Stars, Brisbane Buccaneers, Gold Coast Grizzlys and Northern Lightning).
